Two Questions that I get asked all the time are: Are you in school, where, what are you studying, how long till you're done? (Yes, I am aware that is actually 4 questions, but it is all under the same general topic.) And, do you work, where, what do you do? (Again, I know it is 3 questions.)
So since I get asked those things the most, here are the answers :)
SCHOOL
I attend Toccoa Falls College. I am online student. No I do not go to campus, hence the online. I often will do my school in my bed, at the kitchen table, in the big comfy chair in my room, at Starbucks, or at Barnes and Noble. Yes, I do it in my pajamas most of the time. Try not to be too jealous. And yes, I drink a lot of coffee and take breaks whenever I need them. Again, please try not to be too jealous. But do not be fooled. I am in college. I probably spend more time on school than most students who actually go to a campus? But, Sarah, how can you say this! You don't even have to leave your room, you don't go to REAL school. Ehem. I listened to over 8 hours of lectures this week. I wrote 3 papers. I had 4 discussion questions, which I have to post in everyday, for just one of my classes. I had to read 6 articles. I had over 600 pages of reading assigned, just this week. I had to do 3 "journal entries", which are 1000 word reports of what I learned this week. I go to REAL school. I promise. :) I am currently a junior/senior. The reason I say that, instead of choosing one, is because of some classes I am not sure if I have to take. That being said, I will either graduate in May or December of 2015. I will have a degree in both Ministry Leadership and Bible. Oh, for some perspective I graduated highschool in 2012, so yes I will be graduating early, thanks mom. (She "made" me dual enroll through my later years of highschool. She is pretty smart.) I have actually attended three colleges. When I was 16 I went to Piedmont College in Athens, GA, as a dual enrollment student, with my older sister Jennifer for a year. When I was 17 I went to Perimeter College, as an online dual enrollment student. And when I graduated highschool and chose my major and where I wanted to graduate from I went to Toccoa.
WORK
I was an intern with Proskuneo Ministries in the areas of social media and the school of the arts (PSOTA) from September 2013 to June 2014. I then was an intern at the Proskuneo Worship Institute for the month of July and some of August. I took a month off, and now I can officially announce that I have joined staff! This is such an exciting announcement for me to make, and I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity. I will be working as the PSOTA assistant director. It is an interim position because Josh, the director of PSOTA, executive director of Proskuneo, and my boss, thinks, and I definitely agree with him, that evaluating where I am at in 9 months, roughly when I will graduate, is a good idea. This gives me the freedom to move onto something else if that is what God calls me too, but also, potentially, the ability to stay if I feel like that is what God wants. I love working at the school. It is always one of the highlights of my week. My favorite part, by far, is the people I get to work with. I really can't explain it. You will have to experience it. You need to. You will never regret it. Speaking of which, we are always looking for volunteers to help out at PSOTA. I would love to introduce you guys to the school! I know that a lot of you have some sort of connection with the arts, mostly because I grew up working with the arts on a large scale and that is a lot of you who read this. We host a Saturday morning Free for all. This is a time, from 9am-11am, that we set aside for free arts training. Refugees and others from all over Clarkston and the surrounding areas come to learn about the piano, guitar, violin, bass, voice, dance, photography, art, drums, and more! We are always looking for more teachers, so please let me know if you are interested at all! You do not have to volunteer forever! I promise. If you want to come one Saturday and try it out, but decide it isn't for you, you have been amazing. We have volunteers who are able to come once a month, or once a year, anything is appreciated. Even if you do not feel like you have the ability to teach, we need people to sit with the parents and just engage them and build relationships, we need people to make the coffee in the morning, we need people to pray for our students as they learn, we have a ton of opportunities and I know we could find a place for you. I would love for you guys to be impacted by these students the way I have. God is in this place. Alright, that was a lot.
So yeah, that is the answer to both of those questions. If you have more specific questions or want to know more, please let me know! You can email me: [email protected] or you can leave a comment here or on facebook.
FUN FACTS:
1) I have been a volunteer at PSOTA since it opened. I actually helped move Proskuneo from Grayson, GA to Clarkston. I have taught every class at least once, and no I do not play all of those instruments or do all of those things.
2) There is a benefit concert for PSOTA on Saturday, September 27th and we would love to see you there! If you don't feel like you can volunteer at the school, this is a great way to get involved. It is going to be an amazing night! Check out all the details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/376232449193297/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming&source=1
3) I am a pro multitasker. I can do about 10 things at once. Okay, I don't actually know how many, because I have never tested it, but I can do a lot. Most of the time I can be listening and taking notes on a lecture while answering discussion questions, emails, and feedback on assignments, while eating my breakfast and drinking coffee. I know. Skills.
MUSIC:
It Is Well- Bethel Music feat. Kristene Dimarco. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNqo4Un2uZI
Shout out to Eliza Davis for this one! She led this song at PWI 2014 and it has become one of my favorites. I often will go to the piano and just play this to relax and just be. It is wonderful.
