First of all, who starts their week on a Thursday? Apparently, I do.
So this is the first weekly post, hurray! It is actually going to be quite an exciting one as well. Why you might ask? Well because I am officially announcing that I am now an intern for Proskuneo Ministries!!! (http://proskuneo.org/ ) If you want to know what they are all about click that link, click it! :) Most of you probably know that I have been a volunteer for Proskuneo for a long time, and a regular volunteer teacher at the Proskuneo School of the Arts (PSOTA) since the school opened a year and a half ago. I am the PSOTA and the social media intern until December, and I am so excited! This really is an incredible opportunity for me, and I just get excited every time I go to "work". This adventure officially started Saturday (21st). I normally teach whatever class we need a teacher for during our free-for-all time which takes place from 9-11 in the mornings, in the past I have taught art, guitar, piano, dance, drama, and even the violin. This Saturday was different because I spent my morning "hosting" and being trained by the lovely Heidi, she is pretty awesome, on what all I will be doing on my Saturdays at the school. It was a wonderful time and makes me even more excited about this opportunity. A quick note on Clarkston, for those of you who haven't had the amazing opportunity to hear about it or visit it. This is a city set aside by the government for refugee resettlement, there are a lot of fancy stats and information, and I encourage you to research the area, but this is what a person who has worked there for over a year defines it as, "Clarkston is a city with lots of apartment complexes full of God's children who have suffered in their home countries and so they have moved to the US to find refuge. They are some of the most talented and amazing people you will meet and if you are blessed than you will get to hear some of their incredible stories and they will touch your heart. "
Monday was "staff meeting", I put that in quotation marks because this is unlike any sort of staff meeting that I could think of. We started off by praying and then spending about an hour reading John 2:1-11, talking about our thoughts on the passage, and really digging deep into the Scripture, it was amazing. Then we moved on the talk about prayer requests for each other before we got down to the "business" we needed to discuss. The rest of the meeting was spent discussing those business things, but even those felt like a blessing to me. I was so amazed that God allowed me to have this internship and that He blessed me with "bosses" and "co-workers" that focus on the Word and on God. I spent today (26th) at PSOTA doing a few more training things with Heidi, and this afternoon I met with the fantastic Karen to be trained in Social media.
It may seem silly that I would love a "job" so much, but I really do love doing this sort of thing. I feel like God has called me to work in ministry, specifically in missions, and I really feel like PSOTA and Clarkston is a large part of that. Every time I am there I don't want to leave, it is like my heart smiles everytime I see the sign that reads, "Welcome to Clarkston". I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me, especially through this internship.
Picture 2: One of my favorite places to be involved is the Art Room!
Picture 3: The Piano Room is always a favorite for students, they love to come out and tell people all the things they learned!
Fun Facts About Me:
1. I love to walk around Clarkston and just see people.
2. Shwarma has become one of my favorite things due to the restaurant located across the street from the school. Seriously, it is delicious.
3. I love records. How they sound. How they look. Everything. There just so happens to also be an amazing record store located across the street from the school.
